Theme for Week 3, 2012: Integrated Water Resource Management

Everyone uses water. We use it to drink, to bath, for clearing away our wastes, we use it for industry, for agriculture, for transportation, for recreation, for heating, and cooling, creating energy, and more and more things than we can imagine. But water is a fragile resource, and management of water requires an effort that protects, preserves, shares and benefits from our water resources.
Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) is the state of the art strategy for making sure that all users needs are taken into consideration, that there is fairness in sharing the water, and that the water from our environment can sustain the ecosystems we depend upon.

Our project is working with the governments of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to develop National IWRM Plans, that will support regional IWRM management. We are now developing trainings on IWRM, university curriculum for IWRM Master’s Programs, and helping make IWRM a shared benefit for everyone in the region.

Water is life and properly managing it, together, can make our lives better. Everywhere.

Please stay tuned to see how we are progressing and to add your thoughts too! After all, this water belongs to all of us.
