GEF and World Bank to Support Conservation of Colombian Amazon and Opportunities for Its Inhabitants

16 Dec 2014 | by thegef.org
A US$10.4 million grant made by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the World Bank, aimed at reducing deforestation and preserving biodiversity in close to nine million hectares (almost the size of Hungary) was approved by the World Bank’s board.

The grant benefits the Caqueta and Guaviare departments of Colombia’s Amazon region. Funding will be used for the Forest Conservation and Sustainability in the Heart of the Colombian Amazon Project, which seeks to improve governance and promote sustainable land-use practices.
