BEIJING, PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is restoring degraded lands and boosting local livelihoods in the western region of the People's Republic of China (PRC), through the administration of a $5.25 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

"Sustainable land management and building resilience to climate change are priorities for provinces in the western regions of the PRC where about three quarters of the country's rural poor reside," said Frank Radstake, an ADB Senior Environment Specialist. "The technical assistance grant will support government efforts to expand measures to combat land degradation, to restore grassland areas, and to boost land productivity in about 1.8 million hectares."
