Twinning is a flexible, step-by-step process that helps you connect with the right partner, define shared goals, and carry out a tailored exchange — with IW:LEARN support at every stage.
Step 1. Express Interest
Tell us about your project and whether you’re looking to learn or share knowledge.
- Complete one simple form — choose whether you're a knowledge seeker or donor.
- Briefly describe your focus areas, goals, and available time.
- Once completed, your twinning request form or knowledge donor form will appear on the website as part of the Partners database.
Step 2. Connect With a Partner
Find the right match for your learning or knowledge-sharing goals.
- Based on your Expression of Interest, IW:LEARN will suggest potential partners aligned with your focus.
- You can also explore the Partner Database to proactively search for organizations with relevant expertise.
- Once a suitable partner is identified, you’re free to reach out, connect, and agree to move forward together.
Step 3. Co-Develop and Submit Your Twinning Proposal
- With your partner, define:
- Shared learning goals and focus topics
- Planned activities (e.g. site visits, virtual exchanges, joint sessions)
- Timeline, format, and roles
- Use the Twinning Toolkit (find it at the bottom of the page) to access templates, checklists, and examples
- Submit your proposal to pcu@iwlearn.org with the subject title "Twinning proposal" for review and feedback
- Refine if needed — IW:LEARN supports you throughout the process
- Once approved, you’ll receive the green light to begin
Step 4. Carry Out Your Exchange and Share Results
Bring your twinning to life and amplify the learning.
- Implement your exchange activities as agreed
- Engage your teams, document key insights and lessons learned
- Submit an Experience Note
- Your outcomes will be published on IW:LEARN to inspire other projects
