National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change (INE), Mexico

The Instituto Nacional de Ecología (INE), part of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, is responsible for the generation of scientific and technical information on environmental issues, as well as capacity building in human resource areas, in order to inform society, support decision making, encourage the protection of the environment, and promote the sustainable use of natural resources. Furthermore, it is responsible for the Coordination of the Climate Change Program and the coordination of climate change studies in Mexico to ensure compliance with commitments established in the National Development Plan, the Sectorial and Institutional Programs, and the UNFCCC, as a non-Annex I Party to the Convention. The development of Climate Change State Programs (PEACC) is an important initiative of this institute. INE has also developed a Deforestation Risk Index that will help identify areas that have high deforestation risk.
