Techniques come under two main categories: those that have to play a role during area-wide water resources planning and those related to implementation at field level.
Techniques can be also classified according to their contribution to water resources management benefits (‘Resource augmentation,’ ‘Environmental control,’ etc.); but this classification is not rigorous, since certain activities may contribute to more than one of these immediate objectives.
