2011 Results Notes - Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project II APL1 (LVEMP II)

1. Improved collaborative management of the transboundary natural resources: draft reports produced and discussed with Partner States and development partners on (i) harmonization of regional policies for water resources management produced and (ii) on options for the establishment of a Lake Victoria Environmental Fund; fisheries frame survey conducted in Lake Victoria in a coordinated manner by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, with support from Lake Victoria Fisheries Organization. 2. Development of institutional and human capacity: 508 industrialists from 107 industries trained in cleaner production technologies; Research Vessel Jumuiya rehabilitated, equiped, and available for use by all Partner States in Lake Victoria. 3. Reducing environmental stress in targeted pollution hotspots: inventory and GIS mapping of 387 hotspots of point sources of pollution involving 292 industries in the Lake Victoria Basin in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda; 88 industries mapped and 24 in-plant cleaner production assessments completed.
