So much news nowadays describes to us the poor state of health suffered by many of the earth’s seas and oceans: coastal areas being degraded by oil and chemical pollution and poor building practices; coral reefs being destroyed by excessive nutrients, explosives, or siltation from unmanaged land activities; marine resources being over-fished relentlessly. But the news is not all bad.
