The first AMAP assessment of acidification (AMAP, 1998) addressed the processes involved in the acidification of arctic soils, and the direct effects of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOX), as well as acidifying deposition, on the biotic components of terrestrial ecosystems.
