The following information document highlights the role which the Global Environment Facility (GEF) International Waters (IW) focal area has had over the years in assisting countries in implementing actions towards meeting the objectives of the Global Programme of Action (GPA) for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities. This synergetic partnership has enabled countries to make the necessary investments in order to address key challenges related land-based sources of pollution and marine degradation.
