LME Definitive Volume

The health of our global oceans has reached a critical juncture, sparking a renewed international commitment to reverse environmental degradation. In 2015, this urgency was formalized by the United Nations through Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14), which establishes ambitious targets for the sustainable management of marine resources by 2030.

To support these global goals, the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE)—in partnership with the University of Rhode Island—convened a dedicated workshop to synthesize expert knowledge on the Large Marine Ecosystems (LME) approach. SCOPE has spent over four decades providing independent scientific assessments on high-stakes environmental issues, from climate change to biodiversity.
