UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)
UNCCD establishes regional cooperation by exchanging experiences and creating concepts to combat desertification, land degradation and drought. It reports on the resource use trends, assists in the identification of action points, integrates into the national agenda on sustainable development and poverty alleviation, and gains political support in the regions.
To meet complex challenges on land, climate and biodiversity which are intimately interconnected, UNCCD works closely with the UN Convention on Biodiversity (UNCBD) and UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
UNCCD works actively in the regions of Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Carribean, North Mediterranean, and Central and Eastern Europe. It also assists in rehabilitating land that are characterized by poor soil and low rainfall.
