A Strategic Action Programme for Sustainable Management of the Western Indian Ocean Large Marine Ecosystems

The SAP serves as a formal agreement by the countries regarding the actions that they intend to address LME issues, threats and impacts (including monitoring of any future changes); how an understanding of those threats and impacts can be captured as part of an adaptive management and policy realignment process in order to protect the livelihoods and well-being of dependent communities; and the actual institutional arrangements that will need to be put in place to make this happen as well as a mechanism for monitoring, evaluation and fine-tuning the entire process.
