Supporting sustainable ocean development planningf or Large Marine Ecosystems (2016)

The three countries bordering the Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem (BCLME), Angola, Namibia and South Africa, now offer an excellent example of transboundary commitment to introducing cross-sectoral ocean development planning: the recent signing of the Benguela Current Convention in March 2013, the first legal framework in Africa to be based on the Large Marine Ecosystem approach to ocean governance, triggered a new era of south–south collaboration between these countries towards the ecosystem-based governance of the BCLME.
