A tradition of the GEF Biennial International Waters Conferences is the Innovation Marketplace—the exhibit opportunity where GEF IW Projects display their results, unique approaches and catalytic outcomes, with emphasis on how these may be replicated.

IWC8 presents a twist on the way the Innovation Marketplace is delivered. Rather than utilizing an exhibition booth, project exhibitors are instructed to design a poster for display on a retractable/roll up banner (pictured below). The standard banner size for the conference is W33” (84 cm) x H80” (203 cm).

Breaks between conference sessions, post-lunchtime and some evening events will be opportunities for projects to network, and to promote exploration and informal discussion related to their exhibit posters. On the final day of the conference, each exhibit poster will be transported to, and displayed at, the high-level event programme in Colombo.

**ALL GEF IW PROJECTS SHOULD UNDERTAKE TO PRODUCE EXHIBIT POSTERS**

Display Instructions

Exhibit posters shall present:

1. A Project Reporting Against the GEF IW Process, Stress Reduction and Environmental and Socioeconomic Status Results Indicators

Please quantify results whenever possible.

(a) Process results are outcomes and associated indicators that establish regional and/or national frameworks/conditions for improving transboundary environmental/water resources quality or quantity. Briefly summarize the project’s results in the area of process. This might include, inter alia, establishment of country specific inter-ministerial committees; completion of a country-endorsed TDA or SAP; or establishment of a new NAP.

(b) Stress Reduction results are outcomes and associated indicators that characterize and quantify specific reductions in environmental/water resources stress on transboundary water bodies Briefly summarize the project’s results in the area of stress reduction. This might include, inter alia, point source pollution reduction; reduced fishing pressure; increased water use efficiency; or number of habitat protected.

(c)  Environmental and Socioeconomic Status results are outcomes and associated indicators that demonstrate improvements in the environmental/water resources status of transboundary water bodies as well as any associated socioeconomic improvements. Briefly summarize the project’s results in the area of water resource and environmental and socioeconomic status. This might include, inter alia, improved (measurable) ecological or biological indices; demonstrable reduction of persistent organic pollutants in the food chain; local per capita incomes; unemployment rate; or measures of human health.

All project exhibit posters must report against the following seven indicators

(1) Multi-country agreement on priority transboundary issues and root causes (TDA/equiv)

(2) National inter-sectoral coordination mechanisms established

(3) Multi-country agreement on governance reforms to address priority transboundary issues (SAP/equiv)

(4) Regional transboundary waters legal agreement in force

(5) Regional transboundary waters management institution in place

(6) Implementation of stress reduction measures underway (SAP/equiv implementation)

(7) Measurable environmental and/or socioeconomic status improvements

Refer to the GEF IW Tracking Tool portal at: http://www.thegef.org/gef/node/4402 and the accompanying results passport.

2. How the Project Directly Supports Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has set a new development agenda for the 2015 to 2030 period. While GEF IW investments directly or indirectly tie into each of the 17 SDGs and 168 targets, two SDGs—Ensure access to water and sanitation for all and Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources—are of particular relevance to the GEF’s IW investments.

Please quantify direct support whenever possible.

For visual aid, exhibit posters should display those SDG icons (above) that are directly relevant to the project. The JPEG files of the SDG icons are available at http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/news/communications-material/

To view the specific targets for each goal, visit https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/?menu=1300 and click on the corresponding icon to drill down. If the project focuses on water-use efficiency, by example, the exhibit poster should indicate how the project directly supports achievement of SDG6 target 6.4, “By 2030, substantially increase water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater to address water scarcity substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity,” and so on.

A brief summary of the project’s development objective and scope; the project website; names of beneficiary countries and partners; GEF Grants, co-financing and project cost; and a few key lessons or conclusions drawn from the project’s implementation should also be displayed.

Consider images, diagrams, maps, graphics and other visual aids to present the material and avoid large blocks of text. Please display the GEF SDG logo (on the following page) on your poster.

Projects are permitted to display two (maximum) exhibit posters to effectively tell their stories: one poster dedicated to the GEF Indicators and one poster dedicated to the SDGs.
