This publication contains the report of the Second Meeting of the Regional Working Group for the Pollution Component, under the UNDP/GEF Project, “Reducing Environmental Stress in the Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem.” The report includes a summary of the discussions and agreements from the Meeting. A standardised way to present pollutant data and information for the Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis was agreed on. The report also describes the methods to implement Pollution Component’s activities in 2006.

This publication contains the report of the Second Meeting of the Regional Working Group for the Investment Component, under the UNDP/GEF Project, “Reducing Environmental Stress in the Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem.” The report includes a summary of the discussions and agreements from the Meeting. A wide range of activities, including the devising of a public awareness and communication strategy, the governance analysis, the environment valuation, the national and regional co-operation and co-ordination, and the establishment of a meta database and GIS database, were discussed and agreed on. The report also describes a plan to implement analytical work such as governance analysis and environmental valuation.

This publication contains the report of the Second Meeting of the Regional Working Group for the Fisheries Component, under the UNDP/GEF Project, “Reducing Environmental Stress in the Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem.” The report includes a summary of the discussions and agreements from the Meeting. The meeting reviewed and synthesized Fisheries data and information for the Yellow Sea acquired during extensive data collection exercises, analyzing the gaps in the data and discussing the difficulties in data and information collection. Members discussed the status and patterns-of-change in the Yellow Sea and agreed upon the preparation of data and information for input to the final Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) for the YSLME Project.

This publication contains the report of the Second Meeting of the Regional Working Group for the Ecosystem Component, under the UNDP/GEF Project, “Reducing Environmental Stress in the Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem.” The report includes a summary of the discussions and agreements from the Meeting. A standardised way to present ecosystem data by “status indices” for the Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis was agreed on. The report also describes the Ecosystem Component’s activities to be implemented in 2006.

PEMSEA is at the end of its sixth year of phase 2. This evaluation was commissioned to assess PEMSEA's effectiveness in implementing the Programme and to make a recommendation about its future. The members of the evaluation team have among them decades of experience in international organizations, local, national and international coastal and marine management programmes and programmatic and economic analysis.

This TDA, was elaborated on the basis of the previous TDA adopted in 1997, as well as extensive information gathered since that time. The 1997 TDA was based on more than three years of activities. Numerous meetings and workshops were held to provide inputs to the TDA, various studies were carried out and reports were commissioned to support the TDA. The 1997 TDA also benefited from information made available by the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) Secretariat through its business as usual activities. This TDA serves as an update of the 1997 TDA and was prepared during the implementation of the full GEF Project. To complete this update, a set of reports were prepared. An “Assessment of the Transboundary Pollution Issues in the Mediterranean” was drafted and then discussed at the regional experts’ meeting.

The Conference was opened by H.E. MR. NGUYEN SINH HUNG, FIRST DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM who welcomed the initiative by the Government of Denmark and VNMC to hold the conference, as an important opportunity to discuss with the dialogue partners and development partners about the role of MRC. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Vietnam to the role and mandate of the MRC.

This document is the Strategic Plan 2006-2010 of the Mekong River Commission (MRC). As the MRC is an inter-governmental body, this Strategic Plan is first and foremost a product of the MRC’s four Member States. However, as stakeholder participation is a foundation principle of the MRC and IWRM, an extensive consultation process was carried out during the formulation of this Strategic Plan which included Member States, line agencies, donors, NGOs, and civil society. This document reflects to the highest degree possible the feedback received from our stakeholders during this process. The consultation process is outlined below with major milestones highlighted.

The goal of this project is to strengthen the institutional framework for planning and executing, in a coordinated and coherent manner, activities for the protection and sustainable management of the land and water resources of the Amazon River Basin in the face of ongoing climatic changes being experienced in the Basin. The proposed project endeavors to realize a shared vision for the sustainable development of the region, based upon the protection and integrated management of transboundary water resources and adaptation to climatic changes. This specific project or PDF-B represents the preparatory phase, which will primarily build a common vision, formulate a framework TDA for the basin as a whole as well as a project brief for the next phase through a comprehensive public participation process.

The Wetlands Restoration and Pollution Reduction Project of the Global Environmental Facility/World Bank and the Ministry of Environment and Waters focuses on two protected areas – the wetlands of Persina Nature Park and the Kalimok/ Brushlen Protected Site. This strategy is developed to serve as foundation in the planning of specific project actions in the area of public outreach, but will also serve as a first draft of the five-year Communication Strategy of each of the two protected areas.

Between August and November 2003 Ecotourism Action Plans for twelve potential ecotourism destinations were developed throughout the country. Many stakeholders participated in the development of the Plans. This work included the review and assessment of local resources and opportunities, setting priorities, and assembling the plans. The proposals prepared during the process have been used in the development of the National Ecotourism Strategy and Action Plan for Bulgaria.
