Marine Spatial Planning in Practice – Transitioning from Planning to Implementation

This document, “Marine Spatial Planning in Practice – Transitioning from Planning to Implementation”, presents the preliminary findings from an on-going initiative being undertaken by the United Nations Environment Programme and the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel of the Global Environment Facility (GEF/STAP), in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and a range of contributing partners. The initiative aims to strengthen the practical use of Marine Spatial Planning (MSP)1 and contribute to implementation of CBD COP Decision XI/18 C2 related to MSP, work of UNEP towards ecosystem-based marine and coastal management across Regional Seas, GEF guidance, and relevant national, regional and global efforts.
