Arpa reconnaissance visit

On 9 and 10 December 2011the UNDP/GEF Kura-Aras project Demonstration Project Coordinator and IWRM Coordinator visited the Arpa river basin in the south of Armenia. Together with the National Coordinator for Armenia and the Deputy Head of the Armenian Environmental Impact monitoring Centre they made a rapid assessment of general landscape features, land & water use issues in the basin, and collected water samples at the EIMC standard sites.

On 9 and 10 December 2011, the UNDP/GEF Kura-Aras project Demonstration Project Coordinator and IWRM Coordinator visited the Arpa river basin in the south of Armenia. Together with the National Coordinator for Armenia and the Deputy Head of the Armenian Environmental Impact monitoring Centre, they made a rapid assessment of general landscape features, land & water use issues in the basin, and collected water samples at the EIMC standard sites. They visited the Arpa-Areni hydrological post as well as the Areni meteorological station of to Hydrometeorological Service of Armenia. Special attention was paid to the ongoing hydro-power developments impacting on the water flow and river ecology along Arpa tribuitaries. Together with readily available information from literature sources, knowledge gained will be processed into a mission report, to be posted on the Kura-Aras’ project web site www.kura-aras.org.
