Western Province Commits to CTI

WESTERN Province says it is committed to the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI), which saw them hosting and participating in a number of CTI programs and activities.

Provincial minister responsible for environment Ralph Bulehite highlighted this at the Coral Triangle Day celebration in Honiara on Tuesday.

Mr Bulehite said Western Province is eager to further develop and strengthen its involvement in the work and focus of CTI-CFF programmes.

This year Solomon Islands national theme for CTI day is ‘Telling our CTI story-efforts, progress and challenges of our first 5 years’-2009 to 2013.

“In telling our country’s CTI story, I must acknowledged how the Ministry of Environment and Fisheries and the national coordinating committee, have been instrumental in our provincial push for greater involvement in CTI programs and projects,” Mr Bulehite said.

He said this acknowledgement must highlight challenges the province experience in moving its CTI and general environmental work forward.

“Our story maybe different from other provinces, however we believe we carry common challenges when it comes to playing a significant role in managing our resources for a sustainable future,” the provincial minister said.
