European Commission Launches Coastal Planning and Management Exchange Project

The European Commission has launched OURCOAST, a three-year project to “support and ensure the exchange of experiences and best practices in coastal planning and management.” The project consists of a website, http://ec.europa.eu/ourcoast , which “aims to ensure that lessons learned from the coastal management experiences and practices will be shared and made accessible to those who are seeking sustainable solutions to their coastal management practices”.
OURCOAST will produce numerous tools, studies and develop activities of public interest for the implementation of ICZM in Europe, including: a multi-lingual database of Europe-wide ICZM practices accessible through this website; review of most relevant EU policies and legislation and their effects for the implementation of coastal zone management and marine planning; and development of a contact list of EU, national, regional, local coastal and marine stakeholders and other interested parties on ICZM implementation.
