November 2023 Update on the GEF/UNEP South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand Strategic Action Program (SCSSAP) implementation
The SCSSAP project provides a comprehensive overview of the progress undertaken in Cambodia, China, and Thailand. The focus is on key activities and achievements demonstrating a commitment to sustainable practices and community involvement.
Some of these key achievements include:
CAMBODIA:
- Completed a review of Cambodia's mangrove policy and initiated field surveys for site-based restoration guidelines.
- Advanced coral reef and seagrass management, conducting workshops and assessments at various sites.
CHINA:
- Installed a Ramsar Wetland signboard, and organized coastal cleanups.
- Conducted a national training workshop on coastal habitat conservation. The workshop fostered knowledge exchange among over 30 participants from relevant provinces, emphasizing practical approaches to the South China Sea SAP project.
THAILAND:
- Facilitated coral rehabilitation training, engaged in MPA management activities, and produced IEC materials for eco-tourism.
- Conducted demarcation and waste collection activities in mangrove sites, emphasizing community involvement.
- Organized events for dugong conservation, promoting awareness and environmental action.
