Technical Officer (WHO)

Key Responsibilities

• To support the implementation of the 'Asia Pacific Strategy for Strengthening Health Laboratory Services (2010-2015)' in Member States.
• To support planning, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of national laboratory policies and plans.
• To support strengthening of laboratory quality assurance activities in Member States.
• To provide technical support to Member States to strengthen national blood policy; and develop mechanisms for stronger coordination of the Blood Transfusion Services.
• To provide technical support to Member States on human cell, tissue and organ transplantation.
• To build and maintain effective relationships with key agencies and donors and to initiate and coordinate resource mobilization activities.
• To promote development of research programmes, scrutinizing research proposals for funding, advising on their relevance and technical aspects of design.

Qualifications

• University degree in medicine or related field and post graduate qualification in diagnostic /laboratory science or life sciences (such as biology).
• Minimum 10 years experience in health technologies including health laboratories, blood safety and quality management including experience at international level is essential.
• Experience working with international organizations, including the UN system would be an advantage.
• Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English. Working knowledge of French an advantage.
• Proficiency in standard MS Office software applications.
• Familiarity with statistical and database applications an advantage.
