Technical Officer (WHO)
The World Health Organization is seeking for a technical officer to strengthen health systems in the Region with an emphasis on health laboratories, blood safety, medical devices, diagnostic imaging and organ transplantation. This position will work in Manila, Philippines (Application Deadline: 15 February 2012).
Key Responsibilities
- To support the implementation of the 'Asia Pacific Strategy for Strengthening Health Laboratory Services (2010-2015)' in Member States.
- To support planning, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of national laboratory policies and plans.
- To support strengthening of laboratory quality assurance activities in Member States.
- To provide technical support to Member States to strengthen national blood policy; and develop mechanisms for stronger coordination of the Blood Transfusion Services.
- To provide technical support to Member States on human cell, tissue and organ transplantation.
- To build and maintain effective relationships with key agencies and donors and to initiate and coordinate resource mobilization activities.
- To promote development of research programmes, scrutinizing research proposals for funding, advising on their relevance and technical aspects of design.
Qualifications
- University degree in medicine or related field and post graduate qualification in diagnostic /laboratory science or life sciences (such as biology).
- Minimum 10 years experience in health technologies including health laboratories, blood safety and quality management including experience at international level is essential.
- Experience working with international organizations, including the UN system would be an advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English. Working knowledge of French an advantage.
- Proficiency in standard MS Office software applications.
- Familiarity with statistical and database applications an advantage.
