Programme Officer, Renewable Energy and Finance Unit (UNEP)
Under the direct supervision of the Head, Renewable Energy and Finance Unit, the incumbent will support overall project planning, prepare and update a detailed work plan, prepare progress reports and supervise the contracting of consultants (application Deadline: 25 February 2012).
Key Responsibilities
- Initiate project-related fund-raising and proposal-writing activities
- Represent UNEP in Project Steering committee discussions
- Plan and organize carbon project development workshops and networking/deal-making events.
- Undertake stakeholder consultation missions to identify and collaborate with the key stakeholders.
- Draft new climate change mitigation project proposals in the area of carbon finance and climate finance to scale up dissemination of clean energy technology.
- Monitor government actions and initiatives of organizations with respect to new appropriations, policy changes, funding and financing trends relating to carbon finance, renewable energy and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Natural Sciences, Environmental Economics, Public Administration or related area. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A minimum of five years of project management experience in the sustainable energy finance sector with a focus on developing countries.
- Experience in management of energy technology projects, capacity building, implementation including experience in developing countries and countries with economies in transition, an added advantage.
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
- Working knowledge of French or another UN language is desirable.
