Senior Water Specialist (IFC-Washington D.C.)

As the demands and opportunities for International Finance Corporation (IFC) continue to grow rapidly, we are seeking two (2) experienced water professionals with strong strategic, program management, and technical expertise to build this practice integral to IFC s global advisory and investment businesses. The successful candidate(s) will play a key role in developing this new business area in IFC: providing strategic guidance, supporting the development of new business models, and providing quality assurance and knowledge management to support IFC s water access and water and sanitation management agenda (Application Deadline: 28 February 2010).

Duties and Responsibilities

The Water Specialists will support market development by leveraging IFC s global presence and comparative advantage to mobilize private sector investment in water access and sanitation. They will support development and management of a portfolio of technology demonstration, market transformation, and investment support programs globally. They will also provide technical and market expertise to support IFC investment and advisory staff, and IFC clients, and will provide strategic guidance to the Corporation. The Specialists will assist IFC regional departments in developing strategies and programs, and in building local staff capacity to support sustainable water market development. They will also provide global knowledge management tools and resources to underpin the growth and effectiveness of IFC s global operations in the sector.

Qualifications

  • Successful candidates will bring a mix of education, skills and experience, including some combination of: Masters level degree in business administration, policy, resource management, engineering, water resource management, or equivalent;
  • A minimum of six to ten years of relevant work experience (depending upon level of position);
  • Transactional experience developing and financing commercial water investments;
  • Experience managing water systems, water use, or managing market transformation programs and projects;
  • Experience operating businesses in water, sanitation, or related markets. The successful candidates will have demonstrated measurable impact in their prior professional engagements and will have been agents of innovation and change in their careers.
  • Excellent English written and spoken communication skills are essential, and multiple language skills are highly preferred.

The selected candidates level of experience and qualifications will determine their grade of position -- a CV not to exceed 2 pages; and one page cover letter which: should highlight the accomplishments of the candidate in prior positions which specifically relate to the skills being sought by IFC for this position.

The letter should not simply describe the candidate s prior job history and responsibilities, but rather should complement the CV by clearly and succinctly elaborating on specific accomplishments of the candidate: how the candidate achieved innovation, directly created change, and delivered impact through their work. The candidate's ability to follow these guidelines and succinctly describe their relevant accomplishments will be a factor in the selection of the short-listed candidates.
