REDD Project Coordinator - WWF
I. Main responsibilities:
The REDD Project Coordinator will be responsible for the management, supervision and development of a project to assist local communities living within the Lac Tumba region of the Lac Tele – Lac Tumba landscape within the DRC, to gain lasting benefits in terms of the sustained financial returns they realize from REDD (Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) finance mechanisms, and to promote their empowerment for effective engagement in transparent decision making processes with regard to land use actions. An additional aim is to achieve broad participation within the affected communities, with special attention to inclusion of groups that are currently marginalized. Strong coordination will be necessary with activities at the landscape, national, regional, and international levels furthering REDD.
II. Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the WWF Forest Program Manager in the DRC, the REDD Project Coordinator will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Ensure alignment of REDD activities and the Forest Programme with the National and Regional Programme goals.
- Coordinate the implementation of a pilot project focused on engagement of local communities, application of carbon mapping/monitoring tools, and participative benefit sharing mechanisms. As such:
- Develop and ensure implementation of reporting, monitoring and evaluation systems;
- Prepare, in close collaboration with partners, detailed work plans;
- Monitor the activities of partners involved in the implementation of the project;
- Manage human, material and financial resources in the proper manner as required by WWF and donors;
- Develop work plans and monitoring matrices in accordance with the annual work plan;
- Produce all technical and financial reports according to standards and / or procedures of the WWF and donors;
- Recruit and assist in capacity building of the WWF staff assigned to the project;
- Develop a succession plan with the support of Human Resources Manager;
- Identify key socioeconomic activities and coordinate with existing and planned work in the Lac Tumba program.
- Facilitate structuring of local communities for improved natural resource management.
- Ensure awareness with the modern techniques and tools of communication to spread the conservation message to local communities;
- Support field staff in data collection and in the development and use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS);
- Ensure coordination of REDD project work with other activities and strategies being implemented in the Landscape.
III. Profile:
Qualifications
- An MSc in Natural Resource Management, Agronomy, Rural Development or equivalent experience.
- Strong project management skills and experience
Specific Skills
- Demonstrated technical capacity for program development as well as technical, administrative and financial management capacity;
- Familiarity with social sciences and community work.
- Capacity in technical and financial management;
- Excellent organizational skills and written and verbal communication capacity;
- Excellent knowledge of computers and geographic information systems.
- Very good knowledge of French and English written and spoken
