Project Coordinator (GEF GCLME Project)
Job description:
He/she will provide overall supervision for all staff in the Regional Coordination Unit as well as guiding and supervising all external policy relations. He/she is responsible for the coordination and monitoring of international inputs. He/she shall consult with, and coordinate closely with the UNIDO Project Manager and UNDP and UNEP-GEF Task Managers, national focal points, senior representatives of partner agencies as well as the respective UNIDO, UNDP and UNEP officers. He/she will also seek additional funding and partners, and integrate their inputs to project workplans and budgets. He/she should closely liaise with other complementary or parallel initiatives to ensure maximum complementarities.
Qualifications:
- proven ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary team;
- demonstrated diplomatic and negotiating skills;
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- sensitivity to cultural, socio-economic and political differences; and
- a sound track record of translating the results of scientific assessments into management and decision support systems;
- proven knowledge of the sub-region and, in particular, of the coastal countries would be a strong asset; and familiarity with the goals and procedures of international organizations, in particular those of the GEF partners (UNDP, UNEP, World Bank, UNIDO)
- Post-graduate degree (preferably a Ph.D.) in the Marine Sciences,
Environmental Management, or a directly related field (e.g. fisheries
management, environmental engineering, natural resources
economics)
- extensive experience in the sustainable management of LMEs and/or
Integrated Coastal Zone Management with at least ten (10) years
experience in fields related to the assignment;
- at least ten years experience at a senior project management level,
preferably in a complex (transboundary) setting;
- at least ten years experience in the development of policies,
legal/regulatory and economic instruments and transboundary action
plans for the establishment of sustainable fisheries, restoration of
degraded habitats and the reduction of land and ship based pollution in
coastal waters;
- proven experience in supporting the establishment of financial mechanisms to cover the long term operational costs of transboundary commissions active in sustainable and integrated management of terrestrial and marine natural resources;
- proven experience in overcoming deadlocks and difficulties in the
implementation of complex projects and in bringing them back on
track
