Director, Seascapes, Conservation International
The Seascape approach has been developed by CI staff and partners since 2005, based on experiences from the implementation of a $10 million a year program extending three Seascapes. Successful oversight and development require close collaboration with all CI headquarters divisions (in particular the Marine Climate Change, Coral Triangle Initiative, Ocean Flagship and Marine Economics Programs) and field programs in Eastern Tropical Pacific, Papuan Bird's Head and Sulu-Sulawesi Seascapes.
The Seascapes Director engages in day-to-day interactions and maintains a constructive relationship with donors to the Seascapes Program. Further, the Seascapes Director works with field programs to identify Seascape implementation needs, opportunities and lessons learned.
The Seascapes Director represents the Marine Division, interacts with government officials and other program stakeholders, including a diverse range of partners. The position directly manages one staff person and indirectly provides guidance to 5-10 staff. In addition to management, the Seascapes Director is engaged in program development and fundraising.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and promote the Seascape approach for comprehensive ocean governance and management to internal and external audience including at international conference and to bilateral and multilateral agencies

Provide oversight of Seascape implementation and timely reporting, and maintain constructive day-to-day engagement and relationship with donors including Walton Family Foundation staff

Provide leadership for the identification of Seascape implementation needs and opportunities in collaboration with field teams, other CI programs and partners in accordance with CI vision, mission and strategy

Consolidate Seascapes implementation lessons learned and ensure sharing of experiences including through the organization and implementation of Annual Seascape workshops for CI staff, partners and international experts
- Provide support to Seascapes and other marine program fundraising including development of project proposals, identification and pursuit of new and expanded sources of funding.
Working Conditions: The position requires up to 50 % international travel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills:

This position will support numerous field teams. An understanding of the work, implementation process, and ability to inform that work and process are critical

5+ years of marine conservation experience

Advanced degree in marine conservation related field
-
Knowledge of current approaches to large scale marine governance and management, and the latest relevant research findings
-
An ability to work with diverse teams in many regions of the world and ensure contributions from staff who are not direct reports are absolutely critical for success
- Having a passion for achieving human well-being through biodiversity conservation and an ability to inspire colleagues and partners is important to excel in this position.
Preferred Skills:
-
Global understanding of marine conservation priorities as well as a working knowledge of conservation in multiple geographic regions.
- Language skills - particularly Spanish, Indonesian, Malay and/or Tagalog.
