Extractives Coordinator, Conservation Policy and Science (WWF)
The incumbent will play a vital role in developing and coordinating the implementation of a WWF strategy on engagement with the extractives industry in order to minimize the footprint of oil, gas and mineral extraction, building upon existing strengths and focusing on priority regions. He/she will work on a long term strategy for WWF International on extractives and outline the most impactful areas of intervention, both in private sector engagement and international standard setting (Application Deadline: 1 March 2012).
Location: The position is based in Cape Town, South Africa or possibly Gland, Switzerland.
Key Responsibilities
- Identifying key gaps and contradictions in WWFs existing policies on oil, mining and related extractives issues
- Develop a strategy to address these issues and come to a clear policy framework.
- Define which oil and mining issues most critically need be addressed and prioritise.
- Drive international Policy changes.
- Develop and implement a long term strategy on engagement with key international initiatives.
- Create a framework for the development of transformational partnerships with extractive
companies.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in the interaction between extractives industries and conservation.
- A university degree in business, marketing or social sciences.
- At least 5 years of experience in marketing, business development and/or corporate fundraising, preferably in the private sector.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and diplomatic skills.
- Ability to relate convincingly and credibly with senior business executives.
- Excellent command of English.
