Associate Professor, Shipping Management (WMU)
The World Maritime University (WMU) is seeking to fill a position as Associate Professor in the area of shipping management with a specialization in ship finance. This position is expected, under the supervision of the Vice-President (Academic) to be engaged in teaching, including engagement in the MSc teaching programs in Malmö, Shanghai, Dalian, and other locations as needed and assigned (Application Deadline: 5 February 2012).
Key Responsibilities
- Involvement in distance education and Professional Development Courses (PDCs), as required.
- Mentoring of PhD and MSc students and supervision of research theses/dissertations.
- Scholarship in the form of publications in peer-reviewed journals, books, book chapters, etc.
- The development of research projects, submission of project proposals, management of projects.
- Presentation of research findings at professional conferences and meetings.
- Service on WMU committees and work groups, and active participation in administrative, academic, and curriculum duties.
Qualifications
- A doctorate in the area of maritime economics with preferred experience in shipping finance, investment appraisal, market analysis, or other shipping management areas.
- Experience in teaching at the postgraduate level.
- A track record in research and scholarly publication in maritime economics.
- Professional experience in the maritime transport sector is desirable, as is seafaring experience.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Effective communication skills in an international and diverse academic community.
