    Project Description:

The GEF Global Objective of the Project – a part of the SUSTAINABLE Med Program - is to finance additional infrastructure which allow increasing the reuse of treated wastewater in agriculture, thereby reducing the volume of treated wastewater discharge from Greater Tunis into the Gulf of Tunis - an environmentally sensitive area of the Mediterranean Sea. The specific objectives of this project are to: i) provide an environmentally safe disposal system for the treated wastewater which will not be reused in agriculture in the North of Tunis; and ii) increase the quantity and quality of treated wastewater made available to farmers to encourage its reuse in agriculture in the Borj Touil area.
