Report of National Project Co-ordinator – Republic of Korea
- This Progress Report covers progress of the project made during the period from January through November 2007. Following the completion of the TDA (Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis) Report, activities for the 2007, the Third Year of the Project, have mainly been focused on the preparation of the SAP (Strategic Action Programme). A series of meetings have been organized by the Project Management Office (PMO); SAP Consultation Meeting in February, the 1st SAP Ad- Hoc Working Group Meeting in April, 1st Regional Science Conference on the Yellow Sea and 2nd SAP Ad-Hoc Working Group Meetings in August, etc. Efforts have also been made to fulfill the cooperative study cruise which has been carried over from the last year. With strenuous efforts and coordination by the PMO, an agreement has been reached between two countries to launch a joint winter cruise in next January 2008. The major activities and outcomes of the project in 2007 are described and listed by months in the report. It is believed that the Project has been progressed well so far except for the delay of the joint cruise.

Report from Chairperson of the Ecosystem Regional Working Group (RWGE)
- After TDA had been completed, RWG-E’s (Ecosystem Regional Working Group) remaining tasks would be assisting the preparation of SAP and demonstration projects. In addition to these, conducting surveys and developing techniques to obtain updated information on the ecosystem status are important tasks of RWG-E. Such include CPR (Continuous Plankton Recorder) surveys and Ocean Color Algorithm Development. Here, RWG-E’s efforts in 2007 and future plans are briefly described. Also some recommendations are made to RSTP and PSC.

Report On Implementation of Regional Working Group for Fisheries
- A consultant has completed the report of “Development of joint regional stock assessment methodology”, the major task is to develop methods for joint regional stock assessment for the Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem. In the report, the content consists of six contents: general Issues, methodology, major issues and priorities, recommendations, final remarks and list of references. This report accepted by regional fisheries working group after correction from suggestions during the third working group meeting last year. A presentation was given on the fourth regional working group meeting held in Sokcho, Republic of Korea, 7 - 9 November 2007.

Final Draft of the Regional Governance Analysis
- The objective of carrying out governance analysis under the Yellow Sea Project is to understand the underlying root causes of the Yellow Sea’s ecosystem problems, through the analysis of the whole political environment that affects environmental problems, and to provide the basic foundation for identifying possible future interventions as part of the project’s preparative work for the development of a Strategic Action Programme for the Yellow Sea.

Project Manager's Report on 2007 Project Implementation
- The Implementation of the UNDP/GEF Project on “Reducing Environmental Stress in the Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem (YSLME)” since the last Regional Scientific and Technical Panel (RSTP) and the Project Steering Committee (PSC) has been smooth and successful, according to the workplan approved by the PSC at its Third Meeting (Jeju Island, Republic of Korea, 20-22 November 2006).

Progress of SAP Development
- This Document describes the progress made during 2007 in developing the Strategic Action Programme (SAP) and the National Strategic Action Plans (NSAPs) for the Yellow Sea. The Document summarises activities that were conducted to prepare the SAP/NSAPs, highlighting major outputs from those activities. Relevant meeting reports as well as other key references are attached to this Document.

Involvement of DPR Korea in the Project
- At the First Meeting of the Project Steering Committee (Seoul, R. Korea, 7-8 March 2005), the meeting instructed the PMO to take necessary actions to contact DPRK, and a proposal should be prepared by the PMO on the strategy to involve DPRK.

Proposed Workplan for 2008
- Following the outcomes from the fourth round of Regional Working Group Meetings and suggestions for future activities, the revised project workplan for the Biodiversity, Ecosystem, Fisheries, Investment, and Pollution Components for 2008 and onwards are attached herewith.
