File Report on the Abidjan Convention-BCLME
This Report was compiled by Heidi Currie (Namibia), Domingas Paim (Angola) and Shaheen Moolla (South Africa). Due to the limited time period provided for the compilation of this Report (21 days), each of the country representatives was tasked with obtaining comment and advice from representatives of the respective member state governments on a uniform set of questions. These questions are provided in Annexure A. In addition, and where it was possible, meetings were held with government officials to expedite the receipt of input to the questions provided in Annexure A.
FileImpact assessment and decision-making in the BCLME region
This training course was commissioned by the Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem (BCLME) programme, through the BENEFIT office. BCLME funded the participation of 14 participants while the NACOMA project sponsored an additional 6 participants. The list of persons who attended the course is presented below. The course was prepared by the Southern African Institute for Environmental Assessment (SAIEA) and presented jointly by Peter Tarr and Zeka Alberto. The materials were drawn from a number of other courses prepared and presented by SAIEA over the past 6 years, but customized for the audience and the need for focus on the coastal and marine environments in the BCLME region.
FileBCLME regional zooplankton taxonomy and identification training workshop:
Zooplankton are the diverse assemblage of animals that drift the waters of the world’s oceans. These usually microscopic organisms occupy a key position in the pelagic food web, as they transfer organic energy produced by phytoplankton to higher trophic levels, including fish stocks exploitable by man. Thus, zooplankton plays a pivotal role in the pelagic foodweb by controlling primary production and shaping pelagic ecosystems.
