Project Description:

The immediate objectives of the project are as follows: 1.To increase capacity of municipalities in ACP countries to identify and formulate projects to collect and either treat or re-use municipal wastewater that are: a.environmentally friendly, b.technologically feasible, and c.financially sustainable. 2.To develop institutional capacity - at the finance committee level - for effective multi-year financial planning; and to strengthen domestic and external resource mobilization, including the “user pays” and “polluter pays” principle, and involvement of the private sector 3.To promote the systematic involvement of stakeholders, such as fisheries, tourism, public health, environmental NGOs and communities, in all stages of the planning process leading to municipal wastewater infrastructure investments; and to improve the knowledge base and strengthen information exchange between practitioners (North-South knowledge transfer and South-South knowledge sharing) and cooperation between project managers and finance planners.
