Welcome to the GPA
Welcome to the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA). The GPA was adopted by the international community in 1995 and “aims at preventing the degradation of the marine environment from land-based activities by facilitating the realization of the duty of States to preserve and protect the marine environment”.

Welcome to GPA2
The Fifth International Marine Debris Conference took place from 20 to 25 March, 2011, in Honolulu, Hawai’i, bringing together 440 participants representing some 38 countries. Conference participants - researchers, natural resource managers, policymakers, industry representatives, and the non-governmental community - refined and endorsed by acclamation the Honolulu Commitment, which outlines 12 actions to reduce marine debris.
