The Oceanic Fisheries Programme (OFP) of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) hosted the First Tuna Data Workshop (TDW–1) for National Tuna Data Coordinators from Pacific Island Countries and Territories, at SPC headquarters in Noumea, New Caledonia, 23rd–27th of October 2006. These workshops follow on from the first stock assessment workshop held in 2006, and have been predominantly funded (to date) by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), but also assisted by funding from other sources.

File1st meeting report of the regional steering committee
The Pacific Islands Oceanic Fisheries Management Project was approved by the GEF Governing Council in May 2005 with a GEF grant budget of US$10,946,220 over five years. The Project will be implemented by UNDP and executed by FFA in collaboration with IUCN and SPC. The attached slides will form the basis for a presentation on the preparation and implementation of the Project at the first Regional Steering Committee meeting.

The second meeting of the Regional Steering Committee (RSC) for the Pacific Islands Oceanic Fisheries Management Project (OFM Project) was held at the Tokatoka Resort, Nadi, Fiji on 21 October 2006. Representatives from the following participating country Governments and organizations were present: Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA), World Wildlife Fund for Nature, and the United Nations Development Programme UNDP/GEF and UNDP (Suva country office).

FileReport of the Legal Consultation-2005
Representatives from Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu participated at the FFA Regional Workshop in Port Vila, Vanuatu from 14 – 16 November 2005, to develop a strategy for the provision of legal assistance over the next five years through the GEF Pacific Islands Oceanic Fisheries Management Project. Solomon Islands sent in its apologies for its absence. Samoa and the Marshall Islands were invited but did not respond to the invitation. The University of the South Pacific and Greenpeace (Pacific Campaign) also participated at the workshop.

In October 2005, SPC's Oceanic Fisheries Programme, in collaboration with the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA), started a five-year endeavor called the Pacific Islands Oceanic Fisheries Management Project (OFM project). The OFM project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and the Scientific Assessment and Monitoring Enhancement Component of the project (including ecosystem analysis) is implemented by SPC.
