Review of Land-based sources of pollution to the coastal and marine environments in the BOBLME Region
The Bay of Bengal Large Marine Ecosystem (BOBLME) is one of 64 large marine
ecosystems (LMEs) recognised world-wide, some of which have recently become the
subject of the development of an ecosystem approach focused on sustainable
management of biomass yields. The BOBLME encompasses the Bay of Bengal,
Andaman Sea and Straits of Malacca, which are bordered by Bangladesh, India,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand, and includes
approximately ¼ of the world’s human population.
