The WIO-LaB Project, which addresses some of the major environmental problems and issues related to the degradation of the marine and coastal environment due to land-based activities in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region aims to improve the existing web-based
information system for the Contracting Parties Nairobi Convention (the Eastern African Coastal and Marine Resources Database). The database will also serve as a Regional Clearinghouse House Mechanism (CHM) for the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land Based Activities (GPA).
