 ntric landscapes to protect and conserve water resources\, reduce ener
 gy intensity and associated carbon footprints\, and improve economic v
 itality and quality of life. This paradigm shift\, for newly created e
 co-cities and existing urban communities alike\, necessitates innovati
 ve ways of conceptualizing urban infrastructure that move away from tr
 aditional practices of centralized\, linear\, once-through water and e
 nergy flow towards decentralized facilities and closed water and energ
 y systems.
