Objectives

•  Review and share knowledge about the current state of understanding about climate change mitigation and adaptation in Asia cities.

•  Compare mitigating and adaption strategies to climate change across different countries or regions in Asia.

•  Indentify key issues of urban response to climate change in Asia.

•  Develop draft manuscripts on the identified issues.

•  Promote future collaboration of research on urbanization and climate change in SARCS member countries.

•  Community-based adaptation

•  Understanding different approaches to climate change assessment

•  Urban vulnerability

Four sessions are proposed for the workshop

•  Session 1: Urban spatial planning for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

•  Session 2: Urban densities and energy use.

•  Session 3: Urban adaptation and the role of local governance regimes.

•  Session 4: Vulnerability assessment of coastal cities.
