IUCN Resolution 4.031 (2008), “Achieving conservation of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction”, called, inter alia, for the promotion of arrangements, processes and agreements that ensure the consistent, coordinated and coherent application of the best conservation and governance principles and approaches, including integrated ecosystem-based management and the precautionary approach.
