Trends in nutrient loads from the danube river and Trophic Status of the Black Sea

This briefing note brings together available data on trends in Danube River flows, concentrations and loads to the Black Sea, in addition to an assessment of the Sea itself, concentrating on the NW shelf where the Danube discharges. The available data are complex, open to a range of interpretations and sometimes even contradictory1, but the overall picture that emerges is one of a situation that is beginning to improve.
