Melanie has over 20 years experience in project and organisational management specialising in: strategic planning and implementation; research management; organisational structures, behaviour and culture; monitoring and evaluation; financial management; human resource management; capacity building and knowledge management; communication and engagement; stakeholder liaison, analysis and negotiation; policy and institutional analysis, and; business development.

For the past 14 years she has been working in senior management positions specializing in organisational management, project and research management and, international development - covering areas as diverse as food security; livelihoods; marine and coastal resources; sustainable agriculture; environmental issues; natural resource management; the interaction between communities and environment, and; capacity building and stakeholder engagement.

During this time she has undertaken roles as project director, executive officer and team member / expert on a number of multidisciplinary and
cross-cultural teams working on donor agency projects (e.g World Bank, Global Environment Facility, Asian Development Bank, AusAID) which has led to the successful integration of research outcomes and applied science into local and regional policy and planning processes.

Her in-country expertise ranges from Australia, Cook Islands, the Maldives, Indonesia, the Philippines, Mexico and Zanzibar, and across the broader Pacific region.

She has been responsible for the management of numerous research and project teams including the oversight of a large number of researchers and consultants in their activities, all of which deal with multifaceted complex terrestrial, coastal and marine issues. Further to this I have had experience in working with multiple stakeholders in various cultural settings including government, business, research institutions, and community groups, to achieve practical solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing us and to achieve practical
knowledge transfer into usable on-ground outcomes.
