The overall Development Objective of the UNDP Pacific ICARE Programme is to increase the capacity of the Pacific island countries to generate increased production of food and cash income, through ecologically sound alternative livelihood options.<p> The ICARE Programme identifies communities as the primary target group, and provides assistance through a number of mechanisms (i.e. dissemination of information, technical assistance, marketing support, and UNDP Small Grants Scheme). ICARE gives specific emphasis to providing support for ecologically sound, natural resource based alternative livelihoods.
