GEF 2nd Biennial International Waters Conference

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) hosted its second Biennial International Waters Conference to review GEF's global International Waters portfolio (over $600 million allocated) and to share experiences and best practices for international waters management.Primary objectives of the conference are to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration between participating governments, GEF International Waters project managers, GEF Implementing and Executing agencies, and the private and non-profit sectors.

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Thematic Working Groups (Four Concurrent Tracks)

These concurrent sessions will allow participants to meet and interact with fellow participants undertaking similar types of GEF International Waters (IW) projects. Each session begins with two 15-minute presentations on GEF projects, followed by a working session that offers the participants the opportunity to share their knowledge, experiences and advice within the respective theme. Participants are also encouraged to provide feedback to GEF agencies and partners and offer suggestions that can help to improve future GEF IW activities. Rapporteurs will present the most salient results and recommendations of each session in a separate plenary session. Participants may choose one of the following sessions:

 

Track 1: Working Together: Transboundary Diagnostic Analyses (TDA), Strategic Action Programmes (SAP), and Participatory Processes

This thematic session provides the opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and advice surrounding the planning for developing transboundary diagnostic analyses, strategic action programmes and participatory processes. This plenary session offers an overview of GEF monitoring and evaluation (M&E) policies and procedures. It focuses on the M&E requirements for GEF international waters projects, introducing the conceptual framework for process, stress reduction, and environmental status indicators, and demonstrating this through examples from projects. This session also discusses the construction of program level indicators for GEF's international waters focal area and how the individual projects relate to this effort.
